The Facts πŸ“š

Even Jamie Oliver agrees!

"75% of the salt we eat comes from processed foods, not from the salt we add to food ourselves."

β€” Jamie Oliver

So a wee shake on our chips at lunchtime really isn't the villain here. Letting pupils season their own food responsibly is a small ask β€” and it makes a big difference to how much we actually enjoy (and finish) our meals.

Dear Education Board Members,

We, the pupils of Secondary Schools throughout Northern Ireland, respectfully request the return of salt to our canteens. We understand the health considerations, but a small shaker on each table would let us flavour our food responsibly β€” and bring some joy back to lunchtime.

We also believe that educating pupils about salt β€” where it hides, how much is already in processed foods, and how to season sensibly β€” is far more valuable than simply banning it. Prohibition teaches us nothing; understanding gives us a skill for life. Trust us with the knowledge, and we'll make better choices long after the school bell rings.

Sincerely, the undersigned. πŸ§‚βœŠ
