The Facts πŸ“š

Even Jamie Oliver agrees!

"75% of the salt we eat comes from processed foods, not from the salt we add to food ourselves."

β€” Jamie Oliver

So a wee shake on our chips at lunchtime really isn't the villain here. Letting pupils season their own food responsibly is a small ask β€” and it makes a big difference to how much we actually enjoy (and finish) our meals.

Dear Staff & Management,

We, the pupils of Ballycastle High School, respectfully request the return of salt to our canteen. We understand the health considerations, but a small shaker on each table would let us flavour our food responsibly β€” and bring some joy back to lunchtime.

We also believe that educating pupils about salt β€” where it hides, how much is already in processed foods, and how to season sensibly β€” is far more valuable than simply banning it. Prohibition teaches us nothing; understanding gives us a skill for life. Trust us with the knowledge, and we'll make better choices long after the school bell rings.

Sincerely, the undersigned. πŸ§‚βœŠ
